April What !!!

“THEY” say: “April Showers Bring May Flowers”. April SHOWERS??? It is April 8 today and we are blessed with 19 inches of heavy snow. So heavy and slippery that my snow plow can’t handle it and got stuck several times. It is parked and we will have to wait for a bit of a thaw.

The Voyage Of The Dawn Treader – The Best Narnia Yet

Our family viewed “The Voyage Of The Dawn Treader” on it’s opening weekend; and our family rates it “two thumbs up.” We believe this is the best Narnia movie yet. There are some critics out there that complain that too many things were combined from the book, they are out of order, or skipped. How in the world do you smash an entire book down to two hours without making some sort of changes??? Movies are never as complete as the books, but as for staying on the theme, “The Voyage of The Dawn Treader” does a great job. Better than “The Lion, The Witch, And The Wardrobe,” and much much better than “Prince Caspian” which was just kind of totally made up.

The viewings for the first weekend were down a lot from projected. I encourage you and your friends to go out and see this movie. If we want to see the franchise make more Narnia movies, the numbers need to be up. See the movie. They did a fantastic job; and you will really enjoy it. We need to let the movie industry that we support great family movies like “Narnia.”

Jefferson High Homecoming Parade – 2010

On October 8, Jefferson High School in Boulder, Montana, had their homecoming. The football team rocked. The JHS Panthers whipped the Whitehall Trojans. Here is a video of their Homecoming Parade. Yes, the complete parade took about 5 minutes. Enjoy!

YNOP and AIG

Two of my favorite media outlets… “Your Network Of Praise” (YNOP) and “Answers In Genesis” (AiG). I support and listen to our local transmitter from YNOP everyday, and I read the blog from AiG every day, along with reading their materials, watching their videos, and listening to their podcasts.

I was pleasantly surprised to see the picture of YNOP’s General Manager, Roger Roger Lonnquist, on Ken Ham’s AiG Blog. Yes, those two ministries definitely go together.

Jupiter and Its Moons

Last night, (Friday, August 27) my wife, Carol, and I were looking at the near full moon. There was a bright start to the right and a bit lower than the moon. Carol commented that she doesn’t remember that star being on the right side of the moon. I guessed that maybe it was a planet and then went in and fired up Stellarium, a free planetarium program that I have on my Ubuntu computer. The “bright star” turned out to be Jupiter. I tried looking at it through binoculars, but that didn’t work too well. I also have an ancient telescope that I haven’t had out in years. I brought it out, and after spending some good time trying to locate the moon, then locating Jupiter (As I said, the telescope is very old and the sighting eyepiece has been damaged for years), we focused in on Jupiter. It was very small, but clear. I could see four very tiny dits of light around Jupiter, that could just be reflections of something in the telescope or my eyes. Nevertheless, I went back to Stellarium, and zoomed way in on Jupiter, and lo and behold, there were four moons visible around the large planet. I went back to the telescope, and there were Callisto, Europa, Io, and Ganymede, exactly where they were in real life (except the telescope reversed the image). Europa was right next to Jupiter, but it could clearly be seen in the telescope when it was sharply focused. It was quite exciting to see, even if it was an underpowered old telescope, being used by a very amateur, amateurish astronomer. Click a picture below to see a larger view.

Courageous The Movie

I’m getting excited about this film. Courageous is being made by a church in Albany, Georgia. This will be their fourth movie, the latest being Fireproof. Our family loves and has each of their previous movies. Check out Courageous’ web site HERE, and find their older films HERE. These are GREAT FAMILY MOVIES!
