Katie took art class this past semester. She enjoyed it very much; and now that the school year is almost over, the art classes had an art show.  Several pieces of Katie’s were proudly displayed.  Here are some of them.  Click one for a larger view.

Great job Katie!

Click to see more pictures of Ana in Robinson Crusoe

The Missoula Children’s Theatre, with Clancy School, presented Robinson Crusoe.  Or, more like a very loose, funny version of Robinson Crusoe.   The team comes in on a Monday, does auditions, and practices with the students Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.  The students then perform two shows on Friday.  They always do a great job.  This year, Ana made the part as “Myrtle the Turtle.”  Last year, Ana was asked, the day before the performance, if she could play one of the leading supporting roles on their rendition of the “Little Mermaid.”  Click the picture to see lots more from Robinson Crusoe.

A while back, I posted a couple of pictures of a moustrap car that Katie built for Science Olympiad.  Quite a few people have looked at those pictures while searching for “Reversible Moustrap Cars”.  That prompted us to make a short video of how we made our moustrap car reverse.  Click on the video below to see how we did it.  Enjoy!  By the way, this video was made with the great Openshot Video Editor for Ubuntu Linux.

For Drafting Class, Desire’ had to build a bridge. The course is in drafting, and not in Civil Engineering so though the students were required to build a bridge and test it’s strength, the main object was to build it from their drawing.  Here is the “near” finished result.

Katie and Ana participated in the Science Olympiad at their schools before Christmas.  They both went to Bozeman, MT for the state finals.  Ana studied birds, and Katie made a mouse trap car.  Here are a couple of photos of the mouse trap car.  It had to go forward a certain distance, stop, and reverse the same distance, without any human intervention.  It took a lot of brain power trying to figure out how to make it all work, but we did it!  Good job Ana and Katie on your projects.  Click on the pictures to see larger views.

(UPDATE 3/17/10 – Due to the large response on searching for “Reversible Moustrap Cars”, I made a “How To” video showing how we made our Mousetrap Car reversible.   Check it out by clicking HERE. )

Katie and Desire’ spent much of Friday (Sept. 25, 2009) at Jefferson High School in Boulder.  They helped decorate the floats, and get ready for the homecoming parade and game.  Desire’ took a video of the parade and here it is.
