Christmas Snowfall

We have not had snow on Christmas for quite a few years, and it has not snowed ON Christmas day for even more years than that.  Today, the temperature was in the mid twenties, and it snowed and snowed so gently.  What a beautiful day to go with the beautiful celebration of Jesus’ birth.

Many years ago, my mother clipped this recipe off a Cheerios box. I have never seen it on a box since, but it has been passed down and continues to be a favorite of ours.  Try this simple Party Mix recipe and see for your self if it is not a winner.  Chex cereal can be substituted if you increase the butter and spices as the Chex tends to absorb a lot of it.

We make a ton of this every year.  I quadruple the recipe, then make three batches of the quadrupled batch.  By the time Christmas is past, we are ready to give it up until the next year.

2 1/2 cups Cheerios cereal

1/2 pound roasted mixed nuts

Heat oven to 250 degrees (slow). Blend butter, seasonings. Pour over rest of ingredients which have been mixed in large oblong pan, 19 X 19 ½ X 2 inches. Stir and salt lightly to taste. Bake 1 hour, stirring carefully with wooden spoon every 15 minutes. Allow to cool thoroughly.

It is Christmas time at the McDougalls' Home. Click the picture to see more.

Christmas starts in the McDougalls’ Home the day after Thanksgiving. We love the Christmas season, and celebrate it to the full.  What an exciting time of the year as we remember how Jesus humbled himself and came to this earth as a baby.  We packaged up all of the Thanksgiving decorations and unloaded our store house of Christmas stuff.

On Saturday, we went out and hunted down our Christmas tree.  There wasn’t much snow in the hills.  It will seem more like Christmas when we get some.  Here are some pictures of us getting our tree and putting it up.  The kids are getting old enough to take over some of the decorating tasks, and are excited about getting it all up.  They are decking out their rooms too.

It is Christmas time!
