A.K.A. – Where Is Global Warming When You Need It?

This morning, we woke to a LOT of snow on the ground and much more falling from the air.  While everyone got ready for church, I started up the snow plow and plowed the road up to our house.  There was a lot, and it was very heavy.  After breakfast, we all piled into the Chevy Suburban and attempted to go to church.  We made it about nine miles, and turned around.  The highway had several inches of snow on it and there were signs of vehicles off the road in many places.  We feared that we would not make it back to our house later if the snow kept falling at it’s current rate; and the heavy wet snow on the highway was a very dangerous place to be.   I am glad we made the decision to turn around as we already had a very difficult time getting back up the road to our house.  If we would have come home a couple of hours later, we all would have ended up walking home from the bottom of our hill.

Since we did not make it into town for church, we decided to hold our own church service.  Carol played the piano, while we sang several hymns; then we read a portion of Proverbs 3 and I expounded upon it.  We would have preferred to have made it to church in Helena, but our own was good too.  God is good!  All the time!

P.S. As soon as I got done posting this, I checked out the road report, and our area is now “Emergency Travel Only.”   We already knew that!

This morning we woke up to a thick fog filling the canyon we live in. We could barely see the outline of the trees on top of the mountain on the other side of the canyon where we live.  A little while later, the sun started to burn through the fog and gave us another eerie picture.  Click a picture to see a larger view.

Last Best Space Business Card

Last week, I posted several pictures of some nice mountain sheep that I saw right in front of my brother and sister in law’s storage units near Missoula.  Kathi (my sister in law) responded with a copy of their business card.  She said that when they were in the process of constructing the mini storage units, one day a bighorn sheep was right in the middle of the project, so they decided to have bighorn sheep on their card.

Yesterday, I was again in the Missoula area and about five miles east of Clinton, right in the highway, this nice bighorn sheep was standing, and the highway traffic did not seem to bother him at all.  Yes, once again, this a a reason I love this beautiful state.  Click a picture to see a larger view.

We were reminded today that it is still winter in Montana. And, it is not over until it is over.  We received over a foot of very heavy wet snow.  It was very difficult to plow, which I had to do twice during the day.  Click on a picture to see larger views;  click the video below to view a short film of the snow.

By before noon, we had close to six inches of snow. By late afternoon we had over a foot of heavy new snow Winter Wonderland in Jefferson City, MT Winter wonderland in Jefferson City, MT Our children's playhouse was engulfed by the large snowy tree.

Montana is well known to be “The Last Best Place”. My brother and sister in law own some storage units in Milltown, Montana (near Bonner, which is near Missoula).  Their storage units are called the “Last Best Space”.

Today, I was traveling by while on my job, and was stopped by a nice group of mountain sheep right in front of the “Last Best Space” storage units.  This is why I love Montana so much, and my brother’s the “Last Best Space” storage units are indeed located in “The Last Best Place” – Montana!

Click to see more pictures from our 2009 Montana Mens' Advance

Our church had our statewide Mens’ “Advance” on February 27 and 28 at Central Assembly of God in Great Falls, Montana.  Several years ago, we decided to change the name from “Mens’ Retreat” to “Mens’ Advance” because we are “advancing”, not “retreating”.

This year, we were honored with the presence of Mark Lowry.  Mark is a Christian Comedian, Singer, and Songwriter.  He is well known for his thirteen years association with the Gaither Vocal Band, and has announced to us that he has returned recently to the Gaither’s after a several year solo career.  Mark was accompanied by the very talented pianist Stan Witmire.  That man can make the piano “sing”.

Mark gave us a very entertaining but thought provoking message.  Our sides were splitting and we were gasping for breath from all the laughing that he caused us to do.  What a great time we had at this year’s “Mens’ Advance.”  Click the picture or HERE to see some photos of the Advance.
